We have a machine with a decent spec: Titan Z gpu, 32GB memory, SSD main drive, i7-5960x CPU. The OS is Windows 7.
The artist whose machine it is has recently got a major issue where scenes in 3dsmax hang when objects are copied, renamed, instanced, deleted etc. Basically, when the scenes get to a certain level of complexity (nothing majorly complicated here: several million polys or so), this severe hanging starts happening. When opening these scenes on other machines (with similar/identical spec), they work just fine. It therefore suggests it is PC-specific.
We have tried LOTS of things to solve this but I am now running out of ideas and I wondered if some of you friendly people could suggest more things to try.
When trying to troubleshoot a couple of weeks back, I had noticed that the system was reporting only 24GB RAM instead of 32GB. The system has been built by Scan and is 'professionally' overclocked. However, the saved profiles weren't working properly. We sent the system back to Scan and it has been thoroughly checked and the RAM, motherboard and CPU have been replaced. The system was overclocked and left on full load to check stability as Scan always do. All checks were passed, and we expected the 3dsmax issue to be cleared up.
It hasn't!
The system has all Windows updates installed. We have tried changing the graphics card to a different model of GeForce, but it hasn't made any difference. We have uninstalled 3dsmax entirely (deleting all left over files/folders) and reinstalled, along with all the plugins. No change. We don't run a lot of plugins, but the main ones - Railclone and ForestPro - are the same versions as on our other systems.
Any ideas what else this could be?
