Yes I've followed it for a long long time now...
I didn't find that there were so much improvment, so bad !
Always desert ! desert ! grass and desert, no tree nothing but desert !

They seem to wake up, but I would like to see more.It would be
interesting for instance, that Terragen could be linked to Vray and Max.
using both renderer technology at the same time to only use one part
of each one for some region to render in an outdoor and inside scene.

    I don't know if I'm clear enough ...

Thank you for the annoucement !

          hi there,

you can use max and terragen !
It´s a bit tricky but possible.

For example you can render a 360° degree sky (inside terragen)
as hdr and use it as cubic environment inside vray (but be careful these
hdri´s have an EXTREME dynamic range).
You can export the mesh as lwo or dxf.
You can also "bake" the textures by just placing the camera far above the terrain. This will look like this.
          http://sorceress.netfrag.org/optix/rrr_map01.jpg

There are also scripts for exporting a max camera to terragen. So
you can use it as as background (like it would be matchmoved)

But all of this just inside max would be great.

By the way if you like terragen... take a look at this
          http://www.world-machine.com/
it´s a heightfield generator for terragen but does also output
several max readable file formats .
It has the most beautiful errosion filters i´ve seen !!!
          have fun

          cheers

i would love it if there was a way to do terragen type materials with vray displacement. however since vray displacement doesnt happen untill render time then the material doesnt know how to calculate slope or height on a mesh

              this does work !

I used the free "terrain" material plugin for max wich offers height and slope
mapping and it works very well.
              http://sorceress.netfrag.org/optix/w...ks_n_grass.jpg

the grass is distributed by the terrain material.

                You're right Samuel !!

I had absolutly forgotten this possibility in Max,

I already had used hdr image from terragen, but the environnement wasn't realistic at all .
I don't remember well but there were some manipulations to get the image from terragen and you had to do many other things to export
the scene , the texture etc.But yes, it worked.

I should try again to see more.
                Bye
