Was reading about the models of Berlin used in the latest Hollywood fx film and it said they only modeled buildings which no longer existed to avoid legal problems. A slippery slope.

Didn't Toyota try to sue over 3d models back in the aughts? Or was it Ford?

Anyway.... Ford seems to the the most progressive regarding 3d models of their cars. You can model and sell them but you must comply with their standards.

This could be dangerous for BMW looking towards the distant future. If similar vehicle design minutia could be traced back to competitors, or even concept artists not employed as such by BMW, or general cg artists dodging these roadblocks that are being set up, then they risk locking themselves into a box for their designs that would become very difficult to escape.

BMW guys are just a..holes, its so stupid, then everyone will now need permission to use models from top companies across the world in renders etc. I really am not sure but i doubt turboquid makes even a fraction of what bmw makes a year,i would think BMW would more be interested in working with turbosquid to provide better models so they can be used more in renders and animations, its free advertising for them. People see something long enough they start liking it and want it and i think it would work in BMWs favor to have people making models of their cars and using their logo etc. All said, i never liked their cars since i heard about the whole German Hitler relationship, Also Hugo boss, Ford, siemens, and even coca cola. Probably they will win in court but heck, they are just one in many car manufacturers, who needs them, as a 3D artist its easy to model my own cars and furnitures etc, do something original and for other things so if they all get upset and start suing left and right, i will just model my own stuff. So not kool of them though, i hope turbosquid doesnt take a huge hit because of it.
