A few years ago I remember chatting on this forum about the idea of a sort of Bit-torrent based render farm.
Well I have been slowly getting involved and excited by crypto currencies over the past few months and it seems like this is now possible.
For those that don't know Bitcoin is a fairly simple system of transferring value using a ledger (blockchain)
There are a lot of new coins. Most of them are clones of Bitcoin to a varying degree.
Some of them allow for more conditional statements that allow for a large amount of flexibility.
Ether for example uses smart contracts, if then else statements, to execute code.
Some of them are interested in using blockchains to rent un-used computer hardware. SiaCoin, StorjCoin, MaidsafeCoin are all based around de-centralizing the internet by storing encrypted files on your rented hard disk space taking our raw data back out of the hands of multi-nationals (Google Amazon etc.)
Why would you do this? Because they will give you some of their magic coins...which may turn out to be worth a fortune...maybe
It's all very interesting and very nerdy and most of it goes above my head. Why post it here? Well I just came across this

Golem was going to be submitted as a DAO proposal but since the DAO has spectacularly failed with 60 millon dollars being stolen (google it, an awesome read, you couldn't make it up) they are powering ahead with their own token.
Whether GolemCoin (or whatever they call it) itself survives or not remains to be seen but it does seem like a very interesting idea for the future of rendering.
