windows 10 max thumb preview gone

I uninstalled max 2016 and lost mx file thumbnail preview in windows 10 explorer. ( still have max 2017 installed)
Tried reinstalling max but no luck. I tried regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\MaxThumbnailShellExt.dll" but also no luck.

Can soemone with working thumbnail preview check HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.max what you got there? I have onlu DefaultIcon REG_SZ max_auto_file

Maybe there's something more needed there.

having the same issue when uninstalling or installing older versions after newer versions, its been this way for a long time, years its like this idk why autodesk doesn't sort it out

I have found the solution finally !!!
Run cmd as admin and run this regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\MaxThumbnailShellExt.dll"
and then add to registry the file https://www.dropbox.com/s/xqqz3w4kt6...humbs.reg?dl=0

This will only work for windows 10, my issue is getting max 2015 to be the main version of max to open and on windows 7
