  • un-distortion and re-distortion of CGI to match footage

I've basically un-distorted a back plate using premiere pro and the lens distortion effect (24 distortion using the go-pro preset). This gave me an un-distorted back plate to work with. The CGI matches this but now when I come to re-distort the CGI footage I'm left with large gaps around the edges (obviously). I'm kind of stressing at the moment as the deadline is Friday so cannot think straight but is it just a case of scaling up the footage so the edges disappear or is there more to it ? I've got a feeling there is more to it
    Regards

Looks like I need to "overscan" the final renders. If anyone is interested I found this thread: https://blenderartists.org/forum/arc.../t-290281.html

Found this script that will hopefully resolve my issues http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/overscan

Not sure if it will work as it is 2005 version.

I had to scale up the footage to 125% for it to reach the edges so now I'm wondering how I calculate the overscan size. I guess I'll use trial and error method.

The math is explained here incase your script doesn't work: http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/2013/01/overscan

Still got issues. I used the script which converted the final output size to 125% for both X & Y resolution. The script also brought the camera back and adjusted the FOV etc. So now I should be able to bring the shot into the comp and adjust the comp size to match the new frame size. The footage now doesn't match the backplate. This is before any re-distorting has taken place. What am i doing wrong ? I'm pretty sure the backplate can remain the same size and it is only the CGI footage that needs to change in size as does the comp size.

Out of interest what is your procedure for un-distorting and re-distorting ? I'm currently using the syntheyes plugin for aftereffects. I initially used the lens tool in premiere to un-distort the reference plate.

Honestly I'm doing stills and am pretty happy to just warp and skew a plate to match the cg so I can't help you any further I'm sorry to say
