  • Any ideas how I can create something like this ?

I've been asked to create some bench seating (1300L x 550W x 400H) made up of different thickness logs as per the attached image.

If there were a bitmap out there that could do it, that'd be great, otherwise I'll either have to make a texture up myself.

However, I'm also keen to explore creating it using geometry as well as so far I haven't found any bitmaps online that could do what I need.

Any ideas how to go about this ?

    Many thanks.

Forest pack to scatter a bunch of logs. Then you'll have to collapse to a mesh and slice it, as I dont think the FPP edge boundary thing works like this.

might be able to use this for textures: http://www.textures.com/browse/ends/440

Like AlexP said, Forest pack should be able to do this, you'll just need to chop off the sides. Based on the pattern the logs make at the top, this type of distribution is also called 'circle packing' so it might be a good idea to hunt around to see if anyone's written a script or implemented something similar?

actually i would just model and unwrap a few then use the array tool in 3ds max to do it and again manually tweak a few with the ffd modifier so it looks natural and use displacement for the textures

I knew evermotion had it and I looked for a second. So if you have access to that scene. It's part of http://www.evermotion.org/shop/show_...rs-vol-29/9520 this interior. It's not those dimensions but you might be able to use it. It's made up of geometry apparently.

              Thanks everyone,

I tried using FPP and that was certainly one way of doing it.

In the end I did go the Evermotion route as it was simply so close to what I was trying to achieve.

              Many thanks for that Ashley.
