    Hi boby...

Model the general geometry. The biggest deforms and then create a displace for micro roughness on the rock.

More like a paint artis.. First use a big brush and then use small brushes for details.

    Cheers

use the texture and displacement, believe me its not as easy as it sounds in zbrush, i tried something as that once, takes a while to get what you want

          Hi,
Not sure you will want to learn/buy a new software but i saw a video on how to get this done with Substance Designer. (well not exactly as your pic but quite similar)

Nice! I will watch it, thanks. You would think that there would be an easy way right in MAX.

there is, make a height map of the image you have and make a flat surface and use displacement in 3ds max to push out the geometry

Wow! I think there are easier ways to create it

Download the rock generator script http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/sc...rock-generator to give you an idea on how to proceed and then adjust the stack (IE remove the spherify, change the displacement mapping to plane etc etc) should only take a couple of minutes of fooling a round to get the idea

its the same concept, using 3ds max displacement etc but be prepared for some heavy geometry but you can optimize in the end but who knows how it will look in the end

yep same concept, You don't need the rock generator to do it but there are benefits for someone who is wondering how to go about creating something like this as it is already set up so there is no working things out on ones own. (it's pretty close to to hand made ocean waves)
