    Hi,

    I am trying to emulate this brake texture, notice the cracks

    How do I get it to follow a circular path to look like the brakes?

    At first I tried photoshop distort filters but nothing worked for this, closest thing was arc but it only does half a circle and it stretches the hell out of the texture.

    I have tried Illustrator, using envelope distort but it keeps telling me I must have two objects selected I am not sure why my image is embedded and I tried creating a circle shape and using pen tool to create a circle neither worked.

    I've read Gimp might work I downloaded it and can't seem to figure out how to have it follow a complete circle without stretching...

    Any help appreciated!

    If i'm reading your post correct, you've got two options.

    Option 01: Remodel the object using a Sweep modifier with the box profile along a circular spline. Make sure Generate Mapping Coords is enabled.

    Option 02: Use the Spline Mapping option in the Unwrap UVW modifier. This allows you to unwrap an object along a selected spline, in this case a circle spline.

      There is a 3rd option, use loft. Which is nearly the same as sweep :P

      Technically it is going to have stretching however. Not sure why you would need to map that texture in such a way anyway?

        Option 4: Use a box with many subdivisions and bend it 360 degrees. (To close it, you will of course have to delete the end faces and weld those open edges).

          What about the outer surface of a simple cylinder? Create a cylinder, remove top and bottom - scale the upper rim so you get a cone shape then move the upper rim to the bottom so you get a flat shape. Adjust tiling of the texture in the Bitmap texture map options as desired.

          In Photoshop you can use the polar coordinates filter (Filter > Distort > Polar coordinates), but it is quite tricky to control and get the desired tiling right. (You basically need to position your texture at the bottom of a square image before applying the filter. The upper part will turn in to the center hole.) I used this technique once to draw an iris texture.

            Just unwrap existing texture to be a rectangle shape and texture it in PS. Should be quite easy.
