  • New Computer/Transfer Max Scripts

Does anyone know of a good script to help transfer my current Max scripts? I'm swapping computers at work and I would prefer to not have to re-install everything. I could always copy the various directories that Max installs scripts to, but I am hoping there is an automated way to do this.

Will sort off have half the answer do?
1st, the part you already said. Copy the scripts over to new pc in same location. (inlcuding any icon, bmp, ini files that go with it)

On the old PC, in the "Customise User Interface", on each of the tabs such as Toolbars, Menus, Quads etc, save each to a location on the server (or anywhere really)

Then on the new PC, you shouldnt have to install any of the scripts, because you copied them in the same location, all you should have to do to get it back in your UI is to load each corresponding file for the Toolbars, Quads etc that you saved.

This can get a bit tricky depending on the scripts you have since some of them can store files in all sorts of weird locations. Ones where you need a license won't work since those are usually node locked
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Something like this script, though it's no longer available:

I would like to start to use something like Favorite Scripts to point towards a network folder location to avoid having to do this in the future when we move up to Max 2017.

Thanks for the response, though I really really want to avoid the manual way. I did that on my home machine and just when I thought I had all the scripts easily copied, whoops there is that one my My Documents folder and that rogue one in my appdata/local folder. I think I counted 3 locations that the scripts may or may not exist in.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: it pains me there's no "migration assistant" for max. I usually put off upgrading for as long as possible due to how annoying this is to do.
