  • Tips for modelling stitching?

    Hi all

I'm busy with a headboard, and need some stitching for closeup viewing. Any tips?
    Kind Regards,

when modeling i have an edge loop where the stitching will be and from that i create a spline. Then using a clone modifier (itoo have a free one or if your using max 2016 or 2017 there is a MCG clone modifer) i clone the stitching and then use a path deform modifier. Using the clone and path deform modifier keeps it non destructive and you can adjust the spline or stitch spacing , i used to use a longtime ago the spacing tool but that is a one time operation. I don't have but i'm guessing you could use rail clone.

keep the stitch model low poly, you can always subdivide for extreme close ups.

One thing i've seen in games is doing the stitching with a texture and a 2nd UV channel.
