  • Material Libraries for Sale?

    Hi all

Besides Siger and VRScans, what other libraries are out there for sale? Specifically I often need various metals and things like worn antique brass (worn or faded on edges/corners). Plasters, Concrete, fabric
Preferably NOT made with some weird textures etc that's not compatible with RT
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Viscorbel did some great stuff, think he might have libraries?

Not strictly a material library, but Grant Warwick's Lighting course had a few worn metal materials to download fairly recently, along with a lesson on how they were made.

Whether that goes any way to justifying the cost of the course is a different matter entirely, but if you're specifically looking for worn metals, they looked pretty good.

        Cheers,

I really don't recommend you go down that route - unless you like waiting ages for your renders......

There should be an official material library made by Chaos, they can sell it as a separate product, but at least buyers would know that those materials are well done and greatly optimized for rendering times.

The Megascans, Vrscans, Textures (has PBR scan section now too) can be used as a base. Just set them up in the Sigershader studio and save them as a material for re-use, add worn edges with edgestex and distancetex and you're ready to go? What's the point of having your food chewed for you, if you want them to swallow it and digest it for you too? As I said before, you're just becoming a setdresser if you want everything readymade. Anybody can do that.

+1 but I'd mentioned it ages ago

+1 I do recommend Viscorbel's material methods - far more practical than anything else I've ever seen anywhere else.

I asked for that the first day I started using Vray 10 years ago. Kind of ridiculous that your first foray into 3D should have to be to create a material library.

With all respect Vizioen, but that is dinosaur talk. Tomorrow's 3D belongs to photographers, designers, architects, etc. Specialists like you will have to find new ways to add value besides doing basic renders.

                    https://megascans.se/

                    Really amazing quality real-world scans.
Mostly environment materials at this stage but it's only recently launched so there will be lots of other stuff added. I was involved in the beta testing & I can assure you the quality is out of this world
All 2d bitmaps/layers are created from 3d scans, so you get the real-world 3d info in easy to use bitmaps.

                    Hope this helps
                    Jamie

You can't be purist when your client has a restricted budget. It's all about doing the best quality for the budget that works for you and your client.
