    I'd say the sweep scanner would be as good and a lot cheaper, the v2 is due out soon which is higher resolution again!

      The sweep is very interesting indeed but it looks like 3d environment scanning isn't the main purpose of it.
      I'm wondering if one would need to code some kind of scanning software to use it as scanner.

        You need to buy a second kit to turn it from a sensor that turns on a single axis to a dual axis thingy that'll cover a 360, it's just a cheap laser measure so it's doing the same thing as lidar. As you say though it's not sold with the main purpose of providing a full mesh but the data that comes out of it goes right into mesh lab and comes out as something useable for you in 3d. It's a little bit on the indie side but the next step up for me isn't something I'd buy on a whim!
