I am pretty sure you have these discussions a lot. Heck go on the foundry forum and you'll see unhappy people with modo/mari/nuke etc.
This is very true, you can't satisfy all the people all the time. To be honest this is the first time in 12 years I've moaned, not so much about 3DS Max, it has
its issues but I can live with them, it's more to do with Autodesk and the route they seem to be taking with subscription. Personally I think Autodesk's subscription
is a rip off and I think their tactics for getting people off maintenance and on to subscription sucks bad. Why should I give up my permanent licences for software
I've invested in for the last 12 years just so I can rent it back off them. Then this thing with increasing maintenance costs each year while reducing the incentive
to switch to subscription each year, it's feels a bit too much like I'm being forced into something I don't want to do.

      Totally agree with you SteveC

Of course, you will never be totally happy with this software or this one , that's a fact but the biggest problem with AD is the pricing policies correlated with the development of 3dsmax...
      That's the major point today....
Crappy releases, we know that for a long time.. but pricing is the new gift from AD today !

so basically no one wants to jump from the firepan and land in the fire, haha, for the most part the older versions of max are pretty great, just wish they would simply work with the part of the forum and add in the requests instead of making new features, would think fixing the problematic features would be priority for any software

Fixing software is all fine and dandy but it never should be mentioned as a feature or reason for your customers to pay for the next major version.
You introduce a feature and if its broken/buggy you fix it.

Numbered releases should push the software forward and not only include more duct tape.
          Cheers,

As I said before, IMHO, 3ds max is dead ... or almost, ok I overstate a bit but not that much
Anyway, leave AD is the best thing to do because I don't think that AD come back to a real partnership, think about their customers, users, change their philosophy... I lost my hope today
It will take some time to swap but I'm pretty sure it will be a real gain

I wont continue my subscription which I had nearly 10years. I talked to AD and they said that I am not allowed to use 2016 after I installed 2017(testwise). I have to use the last version I activated after my subscription ends.
Have you guys any advice for me what to do? I will not use 17 because it is not stable on my system.

              Cheers

If they warrant refunds for 2017 then they could warrant the installation of the previous version too.

Keep pushing - licence transfer is done via their server, so it's quite simple to relinquish your 2017 licence to them.

I'd make a noise about it on the area forum.

I don't know, when I bought my subsciption I got licenses for 2015, 2016 and 2017. Only can use one license per workstation, but I don't have a limitation on which version to use it on. However, I don't see max 2018 appear in my list of downloads

                    • My subscription lapsed last week - the management portal seems to show the same as it did before, there are s/n for the last 3 versions of Max, plus a 2018 download, all the other maintenance perks are still available, although I've not tried to use any...why would I...I haven't before?

I don't expect AD have designed the portal to with "lapses" in mind, so I will be interested to know how my new status updates in the future, or whether I will still have access to everything the maintenance offered...just not authorising the latest version.

Foundry seem to have hit the nail on the head here, I don't use Modo, but foundries offer of a choice of subscription or permanent licence and their pricing
seems more than fare, $59 a month subs or permanent licence and $399 a year maintenance, perfect.

                            • This does sound like good value. For those people that do use Modo, how would you compare its features to that of 3dsmax ? I'd seriously consider moving to Modo if the features were comparative. Probably just rent 3dsmax/maya when needed for specific jobs where the client needs to have that format.

                              • The hardest thing for me to leave max is forest pack and railclone . I've been trying other soft recently and to be honest blender migh be better choice over modo overall if we go after most complete tool package. Particles etc isnt too greate in modo compared to blender. True that there is meshfusion in modo so its really hard to decide. Its so sad whats going on with max i really loved this soft but now this love becaming pure hate when watching how other soft is progressing
