    Hi Luke,
Out of interest have you tried C4D ? if so how do you think it compares with Blender ? I'm learning C4D at the moment and it would be
interesting to see how it compares. I've found learning another software package to be not too bad, but like you say, will miss certain things
like Forest Pro, Railclone and PSD Manager.

    • Sorry I didn't even take C4D into account somehow... and here's a good read regarding modo vs c4d https://myleniumblog.wordpress.com/2...other-version/

So much agree with you !
Blender might be my choice... Have to try more deeper
I am also confident that there will be add on for tricks like railclone, forestpack or something else in another way to do all that stuff
I'm also looking forward to seeing Blender 2.8
          (Sorry for my bad english)

True, after watching this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HOmpPfxB_o I'm just getting more angry

There are some interesting videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDa1VaVGyHc (newest modo looks very laggy vs blender)

              • there indeed seems to be lots of hystery around AD these days, but why dont we just give 2018 a shot first???
I am hearing from various sources its stable and lots of things have been fixed.
Its shame they dont give us full list of changes :-/

                • Yes, C4D looks really good lately. But that said, who doesn't when compared to 3ds Max Talking about C4D, It's a bit of a letdown that it still doesn't have a native node based material editor. Because of this, some developers have developed their own node-based editors for their render engines in C4D like Octane for example. I just emailed the developers of Vray for C4D asking them if they have a node-based material editor and here's what they replied:

as maxon sadly seem not to make a node based material, we think about making one later this year
Not a big deal of course but I'm so used to node-based editors that I can't go back to the traditional way, it's so much faster to make materials with nodes and it's easier to understand how the material is built.

My issue isn't with 3DS Max, I've never really had a complaint about Max Until Max 2017, my issue is with Autodesk moving everything over to
subscription, the rip off price they charge for subscription (as far as I'm concerned, I am but a one man band), the feeling of being slowly forced into
something I don't want to do and the fact that they want me to give back my permanent licence for the privilege of renting back the same bloody
software. As Max 2018 is the last version I'll be using I really do hope it works, at least long enough for me to learn something else.

Fair enough...i will rather pay the premium and stick to maintenance and instead of spending years being proficient in somethign else, ill spent the time with my wife and daughter

I can understand that, and I did think about staying on maintenance but my gut feeling was telling me that sooner or later everyone on maintenance
will be pushed onto subscription, or at the very least maintenance would become as costly as subscription, which for me just didn't make financial sense.
So I thought I'd keep my permanent licence of Max 2018 and use it for the next 3 years or so and not pay maintenance, and use the money I would have
paid in maintenance to pay for what ever software I swap over to (learning C4D at the moment, but could change).

I don't expect AD have designed the portal to with "lapses" in mind, so I will be interested to know how my new status updates in the future, or whether I will still have access to everything the maintenance offered...just not authorising the latest version.

Can you only use Max 2018 now Simon ? mine will lapse on the 9th May so might need to ask Vlado if I can get access to an
early version of vray for Max 2018

                              • Spent a few hours with 2018 and I find it ok. The improvements focusing on mcg are a good move IMO.
BUT, their pricing policy is just dumb and insulting.
