3ds max 2018 will ship with Arnold in place of Mental Ray

#SteveC - I'm sticking with 2017 as it is working ok for me.2018 came out the day before my expiry so was too must an unknown to commit too. 2018 and the s/n for the previous versions of Max are still available on my maintenance portal with all the other "benefits". Whether they would authorise 2018 now I don't know, but doubt it.

As part of Autodesk’s on-going License Compliance Program, your company has been selected to undergo a software compliance audit...etc"
This includes a special code to use with the license audit portal. You have to download some s/w, scan you PCs or network and send them results. If you have less than 30 PCs (I have 3) you can do it manually scan from a USB stick and send them the results, although you have ask permission to do this, but they don't make it very clear how?? ...I now waiting to hear back from them.

The funniest thing is that the software you HAVE to download is only licensed to you from Crapsoft, or something for 60 days, after which you have to pay for it....f*cking hilarious.

I'll let you know what happens, I'd also be VERY interested to know if this happens to everyone that decides to not renew their license?

those ditching autodesk, just to make sure you no longer have previous versions installed etc. I think you're allowed 3 versions
under maintenance and only the latest paid for version when you ditch em.

Does anyone experience viewport stuttering and wonky display performance in 2018? Even on the simplest scenes I get awful stuttering when I start orbiting or moving around. I tried 2 different display drivers and no change. I don't remember ever having had problems navigating in Max until 2018. I am working in 4k and I have problems with 3dsmax 2017 and 2018 if I use multiple viewports no matter how simple the scene is. If I work in a single viewport then max works fine. This happens with both a GTX 75-ti and a GTX 1080.

Houdini viewports work fine no matter how many viewports I use.

We didn't cancel and they want the same from us. I believe it has nothing to do with wether you canceled or not.
Im unshure, if they actually want to just check the use of their licenses or steal information about the software, pc, kind of network you use.
For shure they do both.

NVIDIA is working with devs to resolve the viewport freezing problem, but stuttering is not part of that issue. I recently had to reinstall my AV because it was causing me lots of problems like this. Does it happen in safe mode in Windows?

I can't run Max in safe mode. The splash screen appears for 4-5 sec. and then it closes with no 3dsmax process in task manager.

Sounds different to the one I had after I cancelled my 2013 subscription, with that they just threatened vague legal consequences - that was from Autodesk EMEA. Maurice Patel said it was some regional 'initiative'.

I now have a 2013 and a current licence with active subscription - see how long that lasts.

Can you only use Max 2018 now Simon ? mine will lapse on the 9th May so might need to ask Vlado if I can get access to an
early version of vray for Max 2018

Just quick but interesting update - I passed my audit - well I would won't I... but phew anyway!
Not too horrible a process and the person I spoke to was actually very human and nice.
One thing I was reassured of was that because my subscription lapsed just after 2018 come out, I am able to continue using 2017 for now and upgrade to 2018 whenever I like...my last activation was 2017 at lapse but because I'd paid the maintenance for the previous year I'm entitled to Max2018.
This is reflected in my management portal showing Max2018 download - however only 2018 is available, not 2017, so I would need to pay my re-seller
