Anybody have issues with today's update? My screen went black and now a full day wasted, will not reboot. I get the Windows Spinning dots. I can't get int safe mode because I don't know my password; I was using the 4 number pin for a year.

If you have an old graphics card laying around, you could switch it in just to uninstall the drivers. My wife's machine was bricked too and this worked.

This machine has two NVIDIA cards and I have another machine with a NVIDIA card; don't they all use the same driver?

What is the update you speak off Nvidia driver or the new Microsoft Creators Update?

        From what I could fine:
Can you even still attempt to boot into Windows like usual to the point where the Driver fails as you think or are you stuck in Safe mode? If you are stuck in Safe mode then the driver issue is your second priority, because you can swap cards etc. but will still end up in Safe mode.

Do you know if you have a local account or a regular Microsoft online account? The usual Microsoft online account can have the password reset online. However, the PC will only pick up that password change if you get into atleast "Safe mode with networking" instead of Safe mode. There are also some command line trick to get in that mode it seems.

I am back in. I was working this morning and the NVIDIA Experience popped up with a new driver message so I excepted it. After a few blinks, my screen went black and then it wouldn't boot. I couldn't go into safe mode because I didn't know my password (I have been using a 4 digit pin). I ended up taking a card out and then I was able to boot up. I changed my password and was able to go into safe mode. I removed today's driver and all is good.

That's a good question. I once had two vastly different families of cards in. One 960 to drive Max and whatever 3D stuff, and an old POS 650 to drive 2nd monitors. They both had separate driver downloads if I searched them separately but when I installed the driver for the 960 it wouldn't take the 2nd driver and both cards worked. It's a bit of a mystery to me.

            Glad you're sorted out now.

It was a wasted day, but at least I know I am good for tomorrow. The whole signing into Windows 10 with a 4 digit code is stupid if you can't use it for things like safe mode. I have been signing in using the code for a year, so I forgot my password. Luckily, taking one of the cards out let me log in, which allowed me to change my password from a command line. I created a recovery key this time so it shouldn't happen again. Your post helped me get through it. When I removed the first card it still wouldn't boot, so I put it back in a removed the second card, which worked.

That's interesting. I put in an older card in my wife's machine so that Windows didn't like the current drivers and then it booted up. Then I just uninstalled the old ones and turned it back off. What's weird is when I put the better card back in and installed the *exact* same drivers it worked fine. It's like part of the drivers were in use or something and not all the .dll's got written on the first install. I don't know, that's a guess. Drivers sure are finicky, but no problems anymore.

I have a Nvidia Quadro K2200 and at least once a week (sometimes many more) it crashes, I have never ever encountered graphics cards crashing before !? It was 'sold' and recommended to me. But I always quote a review I saw years ago, when a $300 card very nearly out paced a $3000 one, especially in stability.
A notice appears telling me it has crashed and recovered, I wish 3DS Max and Photoshop knew this, both are useless when this happens, can't save etc, have to close down in Task Manager.

simple solution for driver isuess is having both radeon and nvida in the box.

I use to have the crash/recover, but I haven't had one of those in a long time. I assumed it was always a MAX thing since it stopped after a few MAX patches.

I do burn through a lot of $300 cards. I supposed burning out a cheap card every 2 years is better than using a $3k card for 6 years before it's obsolete.

Piotrus has a pretty cool idea mixing the graphics card types for varied drivers...

since I would probably be testing a lot of new drivers for rendering on 1070 I wanted radeon for display. just so the things run smooth. so far I can't complain.

I think I'm going to adopt this methodology. I want to see more competition between NVIDIA and ATI and this is a great way to do that. Thanks for the idea!
