Where do people find the source of original car blueprints? Are they from the autombile manufacturers or are they from toy models? Or is there some sort of underground market that car designers are selling them on? Could never figure this one out. Wondering if any of you know this answer...

Car Blueprints?

The term "Blueprints" does not usually mean actual cad drawings from the manufacturer. I think these are very tightly held. A friend of mine does training animations for one of the major car companies, instead of giving him CAD or drawings they crate up a whole car and ship it too him to measure and scan. :P
"Blueprints" as they are known come from repair manuals, Dealer brochures and even scale model kits. Our own Thomas Suurland hosts a great repository of them at www.suurland.com

Thanks RErender. I hope you and your friend gets to test these models out - perferably some of the faster 2005-2006 models.
You'd think a CAD file would be more beneficial. I am very suprised that many of these manufacturers do not have an in-house team of modellers who would specialize in this.
I'd like to try my hands at making a photorealistic car- but I figure if I invest the time to learn this, that I would like to work on something that no one else has already done - some of the 2005 models perhaps. I just wonder if I would need to contact the dealers/manufacturers for these car brochures in order to get some of these drawings...
