  • Network computer naming scheme

There was a pretty good thread a long time ago on the Discreet forum with this topic. Hoepfully everyone will share theirs or their ideas.

For everyone who doesn't know what i'm talking about...heres an example.

When i was going to school years ago....there setup was as follows:

    Network Server computer name=Titanic
Workstation Computers on the network=Iceberg1, Iceberg2, Iceberg3 etc.

    So lets hear them.

My computers have prefix like: dx30 meaning 'd' for dual processor system 'x', 'a', 'o', 'p' for xeon, athlon, opteron and pentium and the number for the first two numbers of speed like 28 for 2.8 ghz.
My Networkrenders all named troll so I got: dx30-troll-5 for a Dell dual xeon 3 Ghz Server.

              Well just my way...

              regards,

Very boring here. The workstations around the office all have very random names, from Hal to Sly to Beatle.

                The rendernodes are render01, render02, render03, etc...

At home however, everything is named after an AI. Currently I have Loki and Oracle. In the past I've had C3P0, R2D2, HAL, SAL, Robbie (Danger Will Robinson!), Computer (think Star Trek), Number5 (Short Circuit), and a whole bunch more that I can't remember at the moment. I actually made a list once, it was quite long.
