  • Any Source/SDK Modders out there?

Several HL2 SDK tools just got released today! Namely their Hammer 2 map editor. For those who are wondering how to obtain the Software Developer Kit, you have to purchase Hl2 via Steam.

My question to some of you is whether or not anyone has any plans (current or future) to make any mods or levels. I ask in this forum because I think there is some tremendous talent to draw from here. I think there could be some fun projects we could work on. I just wonder how many of you are avid gamers...

Oh, you don't have to learn XSI, you jut have to downgrade your skills to a Hammer 2.

Valve is cross-marketing XSI in a major way and I kinda wonder why. Can't say I know that package at all (benefits and negatives.) I'd imagine that it's a little bit more all-inclusive from a 'plugin standpoint' than Max (though we have Vray so that's enough to keep most people quiet.)

As for the exporter for Max, I don't know what the status of any of it is and have only begun to do searches after you mentioned it. I read somewhere that Valve would eventually release support for Max with a focus on XSI (the XSI exporter being released as of yesterday.) Whether or not the Max exporter being released officially from Valve is true, I didn't hear it from the horse's mouth. I hope you have more information than what I could dig up.

I poked around in Hammer 2 and the Model Viewer last night. I duly noted that all the models had .mdl extensions. I haven't seen any .mdl import/export scripts for Max since the Max 5 recompile. But I don't think this is what you were refering to.
