need a bit of info about Xfrog

Xfrog seems to get good reviews here, but i am a tad confused after looking at their site. They advertise a program 'xfrog 3.x, that will make trees and plants just liek speed tree, but they also have collection cd's that are for specific markets, US Trees, European trees etc etc.... now I would be interested in using the collection CD's for my trees but my question is do I need the xfrog program first installed, or are these collections just meshes of trees with their associated maps?

i am testing various tree plugins at the moment
with xfrog you can have a max importer plugin that can import an xfrog file
i assume that the cd s have trees saved as xfrog files in the same way that you have some trees that come with the xfrog library which means that you can import straight to max
however the geometry that most of the standard ones i ve tried importing is quite high
xfrog is very good if you want to generate your own trees or heavily modify the ones they supply
you might wanna have a look at bionatics and especially easynat
they do a special fro max 7 users for 50 plants ,anyones you want , for around 900 euros i think
the good thing with easy nat is that you can create both high geometry or billboard trees depending on your needs
the best thing to do is download demo versions for both and test them

i havent used an x-frog file in max for a while now but i remember it used to be slow in converting the file for render. I used to just use editable mesh versions of x-frog trees.

The collection cd's come with an import plug-in. The models either come in as editable meshes or can be converted (I forget which and I can't check right now).
