  • Need Layer Manager Advice

    Hi everyone
I have been using Onion and I love it but it is not being updated for many years and it has become buggy with the new NET framework updates.

3ds max native layer manager is not practical for me at all. Such layer manager is suitable for autocad but drives me crazy in 3dsmax.

    Any recommendations?

the Outliner and Nested layer scripts seem to be dead too. There is Zookeeper but that is very expensive because it does a lot than manage layers.
I don't think there is any other alternatives.

which version of 3Ds Max are you using?

      Hello,

We 've relied on Nested Layer Manager for years, and still keep on using it even if Tim Hawker stopped the dev a while ago. He started to develop it again from scratch using C# instead of mxs, but moved at Weta ... no more time to spend on it unfortunately BUT he left everything on GitHub in case someone would want to continue the development ! but AFAIK no one did so far

I used nested layer manager a lot. It worked very well with 2016 but in 2017 it made max very unstable.
Now we are using the max layer manager and it does most of what nlm did.
nested layers were the most important thing for me. I rarely use groups.

            Hi guys,

Haven't received the notifications for the replies (probably because of the new forum update) so getting back to you only now.
Well I am on 3dsMax 2016 and I still use Onion.
My problems ended when I disabled thumbnails for files from the preferences. Strange but working

I installed NLM and I think it is nice. I hope it gets updated for new releases.
