  • online licensing and switch to other software?

Anyone know if Chaos Group lets you switch softwares and still render with Vray now, or do you have to still have a full version of the software for each piece of software that you might use. Maybe I'll use 3dsMax for a project for a couple months, but then the next project is better suited for Maya, or Modo, or whatever. Now that most of these companies seem to have some sort of monthly offering, it almost makes sense to be able to switch. But then you're stuck paying a TON of money to have Vray in each of them, or using their built in render engines. ART is pretty good, but there are some severe limitations, like not being able to set an object's alpha to zero, or override the environment without effecting GI.

I've got an email out to Chaos support to see if that's possible, but I thought some of you folks might know quicker, or if it doesn't currently exist, maybe a few people would chime in also wanting it, encouraging Chaos Group to think about adding that as an option. I may have had a conversation with someone at chosgroup (I did, just don't want to specify a name to get anyone in hot water), and they suggested there was a discussion going on about a flexible licensing model.

Vlado said that they are evaluating to change the workstation license to universal like the render nodes....I'm also looking for that since I'm moving eventually to another application because of Autodesk subscription plan.
    show me the money!!

Same here and the newest Blender is looking pretty sweet. Now I just need to find the time to install and learn it lol.

+1 I think this is a great idea, having some sort of universal workstation license.

I think Blender is a unique case since you can already use the standalone from other Vray installs (Just install a Blender build from Chaos Group downloads, or nightlies if you have access. It will use the Vray standalone already installed) You don't need to purchase anything separate.
