I'm currently testing out ArionFX and I'm a bit stumped on the best way to get a multi-layer exr out of Vray 3.6. We're still on 3.6.01, I need to get out IT guy to push out the latest updates.
Anyways, I just want to confirm this is the optimal way to save EXR's these days, it has been way too long since I tried this last. To save a multi-channel EXR, it is best to use the Vray Raw Image file save dialog correct? Though, we don't nearly get as many options with saving to EXR so I can't tell if it will save my render elements or not. I can't figure out why this dialog won't pop up the EXR options like any normal save dialog.
Everything works, though I had an issue where my Material and Object ID's came in black and I forgot when setting them up to switch from integer no AA to color with AA. Since most of us, I have to guess, prefer to use color with AA, can that ever be made into the default choice?
Onto ArionFX. I would post this in their forums, but it is very quiet over there and I know a lot of us use ArionFX on this board. Things work fine, except when we try to use ArionFX with Photoshop's live linking ability. It will not read the multi-layer exr during a live link and it just gives you the standard RGB. Which is fine, as we don't have to use multi-layer exr's and we're just fine rendering to separate images.
When using Arion for linked layers, it imports as a linked layer just fine. Then all goes to hell when you update that render. When you update the link, all of the linked images from ArionFX just go white. This is obviously a deal breaker for us in adopting ArionFX. I suspect the issue lies in how ArionFX always splits out your exr into 3 layers, Alpha, RBG, and Background. I think that is confusing the update process in Photoshop.
I'm wondering if anyone has a work around or experience with this? I work in-house for an architecture company, so we change renders more times in one day than a Kardashian changes her outfit. So the ability to easily update renders with Photoshop's live links is critical to us so we don't constantly have to manually reload all of the layers.
