  • converting .xyz point clouds to.... anything useful

Does anyone know of a free tool that can convert an .xyz point cloud to something max or photoscan can import?
All i'm finding with google is software that costs around $2,000 a license. seems a bit much for file conversion.

This isn't even a proper job, I just got a house and the painters offered to throw in a free matterport scan when I told them I worked in 3d, but the obj is meshed in outrageously crap detail for real time and i'd like to be able to use the point cloud.

From the free tools, maybe CloudCompare can convert them:

Or Meshlab, although it tends to be quite unstable.

yeah I started by asking him about his laser measuring thing, I told him I wanted to make a 3d model of the house and he was like 'you want a matterport scan? we got one'
Maybe they got it to easily generate portfolio pieces of their interior work? they handle minor renovations as well as painting. either way it's going to save me a phenomenal amount of time measuring!

thanks pokoy! will give those a try later.
