So out of necessity I had to build a new workstation and given the price to performance and my curiosity the ThreadRipper seemed to be the way to go. I have only just got it fired up last night but it seems to be almost twice as fast as my previous build which is what I was hoping but this is only based on a single scene and in the next few weeks I'm hoping to run some better head to head tests. New and old specs below. Currently Im also using the old case and video card but looking to get a new case but I like the big ones and they are expensive and Ive spent enough money on the weekend as I had to replace my phone too so that's going to have to wait a while, Im hoping I have and old tower somewhere I can put the old hardware in to. I didnt have any real high hopes but I think this one will keep me happy for some time.

So far Its pretty sweet. Have a huge time sensitive job and its rendering like a champ. Its spitting out frames almost twice the speed of the dual Xeon E5-2650's on my other farm so Im very happy. Also after rendering constantly for the last 14 hours the CPU still hasnt gone over 65C I had low expectations coming into building this new rig but it is so far exceeding them. I will run the V-Ray benchmark on it when I have some time. Still also unsure if Ill try OC'ing this one yet

I'm sure that is true but anything OC'd will get really hot unless you have adequate cooling. I'm not going to go for any crazy numbers but maybe up around 4.2 to 4.5ghz

I finally put together the 1950x rig. With a single fan, I am able to push it to be around 3.8GHz. Probably will get another fan to do a push-and-pull and see if I can get it up to 4.0GHz. Not much performance gain but much power draw though...

Yea I have my 1920X running nicely at 3.9Ghz and max temps are still around 65C with the NZXT cooler.
