Does anyone know of a good tutorial for layered opacity maped hair, specifically about the placement?

    Thanks,

Hey thanks man, I asked myself the same question. I assume that any studio that may hire me wouldn't use the old technique anymore so I think it might be pointless to learn but could be fun none-the-less

I shortened my original post from saying that I can't afford Shag but I'm about to purchase Ox this soon. I tested the beta a bit but just testing the new release starting today.

Even though I may end up using Ox, I went ahead and tried the planes technique just to know it. I'll probably add more layers and tweak the way it huggs a little better. What do you think so far?

              Thanks again for the link

looks nice, need more tho...and it looks a bit strange around the forehead like too clean where the hair meets the head

Cool I'll work on it more. Yeah that's the hair built into the face map, it will be easy to edit.

Jon, it looks cool, isn't the lipstick black border too obvious?

I see you managed to make it believable with the planes method of hair. What about when it comes to animation though - it is a bit difficult to manage this type of hair in compariocn with hairfx or Ox dynamics.

                      Thanks Tisho

I have to work on something else right now but I think when I get a chance I'll go over the tutorials for rope, cloth and flex simulations in reactor. I may even try SimCloth but not sure how it would do with so many layers. Looking at my girlfriends hair when it's straightened like this recently I noticed that there really isn't much movement even with the smallest bit of hair product in it so I may be able to get a good representation with little simulation.

I'd like to use Ox but the two methods that work with VRay currently(Geometry and Accurate Raytrace Volumetrics) add so much time to the render that I can't afford it in animation on my dual 1 Ghz. Right now, the only way I'll use it is if I can get it working with matte objects and just comp it in post. VRayHair does work with Ox in general but I'm having problems with this particular file. I've discussed in depth with Marsel aka. Ephere but nothing I do is working with VRayHair so he's looking into it when he gets a chance. I've tried everything from merging geometry to create a new file to scaling and resetting X-form.

Myself and Jeff Patton have been talking a little about using Ox with VRay and he has some great examples but not quite something that would work for a human character yet. Do you know anyone else working with Ox in VRay?

Sometimes I want to loose the makeup all together because I like natural so much better now, even though it's her character, but I've done so much research I could sell the stuff now. This style of the dark eyeliner around her lips was once only really popular with Latino girls but I've seen a lot of more "Punk/ Goth" girls doing this in more recent years. Back in the day when I had mohawks of every color and size and piercings all over my head my girlfriends would just wear black or a really dark burgundy on top of a really pale face but I think this looks a little more classy and modern. What I've been doing is asking my girlfriend and when she doesn't shrug then I know it's time to move on to the next stage My focus is on the hair, eyes, clothing details and then finally rigging.
