I'm using it on Viz 2005, but it seems like once you set up the options once, it won't let you go back into the Maxtreme settings at all even though it is your current display driver. Seems to work pretty good though.

Hmm, I don't exactly remember. When you install it, does it ask you for the Max 6 directory? And then can't you just point it to the Viz directory instead?
It's been a few months since I installed it, so I can't remember anymore. I don't remember there being any real trick to it though.

maybe the installer has changed...
it doesn't even ask for a directory, just comes up with an error:
the NVIDIA MAXtreme6 Setup could not detect 3DS MAX installation.
Installation will be terminated.

Maxtreme sucks in my experience, everytime they bring out a new version there is always something wrong with it, some display problem fast wireframe no edit poly handles, zbuffer display incorrect.....then you have to wait 6 months to get an updated installer for the latest version of Max. It's only good for very large scenes, when you have no other choice. I wouldn't buy a quadro based on Maxtreme scores because it's very unreliable software.

Man, I don't know what to tell you. I didn't have any version of Max installed on this machine & I was still able to install it for Viz.
If it's any consolation, I don't really think it's much better than Open GL anyways. That and the fact that you can't change it's settings is almost not worth it.
Who knows, maybe Maxtreme will be better supported in Viz 2006.

yeah... i doubt it though.
i'm not really all that fussed anyway, just did a fresh install of viz and thought i'd give maxtreme another go.
i used to use maxtreme 4 with viz4 and found some of the features quite useful, but i can live without it.
thanks for all the help anyway!when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro - hunter s. thompson
