    Open_Range,

Are you on a subscription ? Or has this happened to you on a perpetual / maintenance licence ?

I can't even tell the difference between those any more. I always thought I was on subscription from long ago but sometime in the last year they told me I had to change to subscription. I think I have always been on subscription and still am. I don't even care which one I am, I see almost no difference. Any way here is a screen grab that makes it look like I somehow have both types , which has to be wrong. (also the lame alert message has re-appeared at the top)

not sure what you mean. I just never understood the diff and don't need to now I don't think. I've always stayed in the upgrade path and having subscription does not bother me. But it appears they made my 2019, which I have not yet downloaded, a perpetual license versus the upper section with the 2018 and previous versions are all subscription. I'm totally confused, and now using a 30 day free trial of 2018 even though I've been using it since it came out.

There's a pretty hefty difference between "maintenance subscription" and "subscription subscription". The 1st case is the one we've known for ages and you pay ~700 USD/EUR per license per year. In the latter case you pay, well, through the nose (2000 USD/EUR per license per year!).

And you forgot to mention that the more expensive 2000USD version stops working (and prevents you opening you scene files) when you stop making payments.....

I?ve been paying @$600/year for a long time. I think it has recently raised to closer to $700.

I am not familiar with the distinction between ?subscription subscription? and ?maintenance subscription?. Just the terminology alone is confusing. I guess I have maintenances subscription. Regardless it?s broken I have been told by my re seller that it has hit many many people and it is all because of how they have rolled out 2019.

so...we have entered a new era in which future releases can reach out and take demonic possession of your current and in use ?maintenance subscription?. I am consulting with an excorsist at midnight this Sunday. Meanwhile I?m using the ?free? 30day trial cause, according to re seller, I am one of the ?lucky? users who can do that. I am concerned about what may happen if day 13 of the free trial happens to fall on a Friday.

That's why I was asking (as it sounded like it was a subscription type issue), yet seeing as you believe you're on Perpetual and that this can happen, all I can say is heaven help us !!!

Look at that screen grab above. I am on, and have been on, subscription for as long as they have had subscription. BUT - somehow they set up 2019 for me as perpetual and I think that is the root of all this trouble I have gone through.

I just got a call from re-seller. they say Adesk has now fixed the problem but it's going to take them all day to get it back on track for everyone affected. So I nee to call them on Monday and they will walk me through the process of getting off th e30 day free trial and back onto my subscription.

Sounds like you are on a perpetual licence with maintenance (previously called subscription). What they now call subscription is the rental model. Didnt your re-seller offer you to give up your perpetual licence to switch to rental?

I think you are correct. (What a confusing mash of terminology.)

I was told I needed to change something but then it seemed nothing was changed and I?m pretty sure my serial number never changed.

I do not and did not want or ask to switch to rental

regardless, the problem that affected me affected many others and took 3days to fix. It had to do with some permission related error they created for subscription customers when they launched 2019 for download. That broke my permission to use my subscription for 2018.

If you're a maintenance subscription user (keeping your Max as a perpetual license), I don't understand how this problem could exist, while there is no need for an internet connection. Your license will just be activated once you start using it. Have you tried starting up Max without an internet connection?
When you are a normal subscriber however, an internet connection IS required, at least regularly I think! Then it would be harder to go around this issue.
