Is the image they paid for as good or better? I know it might not be the comment you expected, but it is what I thought.
In my country, client always right, we cannot argue with them, so they always pay below the market price, if you refuse to take the job, others will get it! it seem like a culture or pattern in my country, sometime client compare us with china, always said they are fast, cheap and quality is better etc...
thats is why i ask you about pricing earlier...thinking to take more job from our of my country...lol

If you can live on what you are getting paid, then I guess everything is relative. If you are working your butt off and your family is starving, it probably isn't worth it, unless of course, there are no other options. I would bet if you charged what you are worth you would be surprised. I try to charge what I think I am worth and I get 90% of the projects I quote. Touch base with me privately and I'll share with anyone who asks.

My formula is, find out what someone makes in the closest studio in your largest city. Take that number and at least double it. If that person makes $40 a year (seems to be an average), then you need $80,000 year. At $80,000 a year, you need $1538 a week and that is what you charge for a job that would take you a week. If a job takes you two weeks, then it is a $3000 job. A two-day job would be $513.

Sorry for derailing your post, but I hate to see people work for less than they are worth because they are bullied. Lowering your rate because someone else would do it cheaper is a business 101 no-no and is a race to the bottom. Doing that contributes to the problem.

thank you for sharing a lot in this post, you are not derailing my post. But the sad part is there are a lot of people willing to do cheaper and even cheapest price in my country, market here has spoilt a lot...

It's a global market, nobody needs to know where you live. I just finished a house in Brazil. Last year I did one in Australia and another one on some island somewhere, I forget. You'll get hired for your work, so up the game and create stuff people will pay for.

Heck, go over on Behance and then you'll see the quality of work out there. Those images are the bar we have to try an reach.

One thing that I notice is that there is a line around the house where the alpha isn't correct. Make sure you render your scene with a black background otherwise you will get this halo line. Render to 32bit exr with alpha on a black background and you will have a perfect alpha to composite onto your background sky.
                        Regards

wow! all are incredible work at Behance, i wonder how they archive the level, is there any tutorials to learn that?

32bits take longer to render, it is not allow in my office, normally render time take around 1hour to 1hour 30minute to render a 4000px image..sometime need to render 10 images per day..

Correct me if I'm wrong but that can't be right.
MR was able to render in 16 bit or 32bit but from what I know vray renders in 32bit only (maybe internally even more).
I think MR kept the 16 bit mode because in 32 bit they had massive problems with fireflys.
32bit exrs are a little bigger and could take slightly longer to save. But that shouldn't be much unless your renderslave is connected with wlan and your server and wlan router are ancient.
Could disk space be the reason?
For stills, it shouldn't really matter though.
German guy, sorry for my English.
