  • Vector Map + unwrap map

I'm trying to apply a Vector map -> illustrator file on an uwrapped object/template from max, but it doesn't scale correctly when applied to the object. Using a jpeg export from illustrator and going with a bitmap map on the object in question instead scales correctly. So there is something missing between the Vector Map and Unwrap Map process.

Is this even possible though? The reason I ask, is that there doesn't seem to be anything on the internet about it.

Ok we've figured out the scaling issue, but it crashes when it comes to render.

Anyone with experience using vector files on large surfaces? We are using vectors for road markings.

Scale has to do with the 'artboard' when exporting the jpg.
Works fine over here. However, we are using the illustrator as a 'work in progress' and 'see what we are doing live' and once everything is ok, we will use a jpg.

The illustrator file renders correctly during the process.

From my understanding, there is a 'collapse' of the vector map done by 3dsMax, as it does not take in consideration layers of the vector file. Are your layers complicated, have you tried with a simpler file ?

        Thanks.

You are correct. The artboard size doesn't necessarily correlate to the pixel dimension of the UVW render template you are working on. What we had to do was create a new document in illustrator with the same rendered UVW template dimensions, open up the render template separately and paste it into the illustrator document we created.

You will use a .jpeg at render production stage? I'm after really sharp lines on our roads, this can be accomplished with a .jpeg?

It's a pretty straightforward file. Would it be wise to collapse all layers that are the same element? For example all white road markings into one object and if so Is there a way to do this in illustrator? I haven't really used it for years.

        Regards.

Just when I thought the issue with scale was resolved, this happens.

When I'm zoomed in on area showing the vector map, everything is out of scale, when I'm zoomed out, everything is correct!

          Bizarre!

What version of max are you using? Has anyone else come across this problem?

I should mention, everything appears ok in the viewport at all times, but when rendering this is the result.

After a day wasted on working this out, I'm pretty sure this is a max 2018 problem.

Everything works as it should in 2016.

                  We've reverted back to 2016!

Vector map issues and the laggy response rotating HDRI's in the viewport is a deal breaker.

Oh Christ - I'm having the same issue. The vector map renders all wonky when you're zoomed in, but fine when you zoom out all the way.

This is a Max 2018 issue is it?

Were you just forced to use 2016?

                      Yeah 3ds Max 2018. Problem doesn't exist in 2017 & 2016.
