  • Chair Recommendations 2018

    Hi all,

Does anyone have any thoughts on office/operator chairs these days? Looking for something rated 8+ hours of usage.

Thinking along the lines of these 2, but any suggestions welcome.

I would check how high the armrests go and if that is enough to support your arms/match the height of your desk. The optimum position is that everything is at a 90degree angle when working.

I have this one and I love it

I have a leather recycler in my office and I chose to sit in my Sayl when taking a break and watching the TV.

I bit the bullet and went for herman miller at home too. It's worth it.
The 12 year 'if any part of it breaks, we will replace the chair' warranty really helped me deal with the sticker shock as it was a personal chair.

i bought a secondhand Aeron 16 years ago. paid ?350 for it. i have never considered replacing it for a second. One of the best purchases i ever made. Even shipped it to italy when i moved here, and its damn awkward to ship.

. im now looking into spare parts or a competent repairman, as the tilt mechanism is stuck in its most "comfy" setting, and ive got a 1 cm hole growing in the mesh of the seat.

edit: unfortunately while its extremely comfy, i do still do the "animators slouch". correct myself every few minutes, but it only needs another 10 seconds till im almost sitting on the back of my neck. maybe i need a waist belt to strap me in.

Yeah whatever chair i used i too would end up slouching, constantly having to remind myself etc. Chairs wont fix bad posture...yoga will after Anyway I ended up getting a standing desk instead...so much better, not perfect but my back pain has gone.

I tried the standing desk for a few months, but I ended up selling it.

I can recommend a lower cost option to the HM Aeron. I have this chair and like it very much. I considered an Aeron but this is better for my situation.

You can purchase a platform that raises and lowers your keyboard/monitor. So you can have a sit at desk and then if you want to stand you raise the platform and voila. i think there are electric and hydraulic lift versions.

the thing i like best about the aeron is the stretchy mesh you sit on. i find sponge/padded seats get uncomfortable after a while, but for some reason the mesh seat just stays comfy all day. plus in summer you get ventilation to your nether regions ;o)

If you fidget in your chair though, the woven version of the mesh will gradually etch away your trousers in the gusset though - a 6 week, 16 hour a day stint in an aeron ruined many a pair of jeans....

hahahaha! rofl etc. ive done stints with those hours, but i dont think ive ever got to 6 weeks at that intensity. youve entered another world when your trousers wear out from too much sitting
