    hi all
I need your help... how can I model this lamp quickly in 3ds max? http://quasar.nl/image/958/656xc/spa...oject-wall.jpg
I think about some parametric modeling or a script, but I have no idea how to make it. I need a much bigger construction than on this image, so hand modeling is not really a choice.

    thanks
    best regards

I would use Grasshopper for Rhinoceros 3D to do it. Or GrowFX for 3DsMax. Railclone isn't going to work AFAIK. What you're seeing is a basic L-system that is a bit random, so googling that you might find some solutions without too much effort. You might even use pflow or something.

Well you need to draw the whole spline he didn't want to hand model so I though he didn't want to draw the whole spline. Ofcourse if you're going to draw the complete spline than it's a piece of cake with railclone. I thought he wanted parametric modelling.

I think the best solution is a combination of both : generate the spline parametrically and then build the geometry on that with Railclone.
Also the full parametric route will work only if you accept not to have full control over the shape of your spline. Because if your client ends up asking for a very specific shape you’ll have no choice but to draw the splines by hand .

Indeed you could use for instance growFx for the spline generation. With a lot of control over the spline ( maybe a little too much) and then Railclone for the geo.

You can try to use RayFire demo version. Take a plane, parametrically "break" it, use splines.
                Something like this
