  • Cryptomatte // sometimes render just one frame of animation on batch rendering

    Hello,

On a recent project we did we used a lot cryptomatte and sometimes when we batch rendered the cryptomatte Render Layer had just the first frame rendered in the sequence.

The workflow was to create a render layer with just the cryptomatte Render element on, distributed rendering disabled (with layer override), saved as exr multichannel.
Rerendering it worked in the end but it's a bit annoying.
We got this issue on multiple scenes. Is that a know issue?

My guess is that we have other render layers in the same scene with distributed rendering on - it's disabled for the cryptomatte Render Layer with an override - but maybe that's what is causing the trouble ?

    Maya 2016 Vray 3.60.04 Windows 10

    Thanks

That doesn't sound right at all. We have not had any previous reports for such a problem.
Can you give us a bit more detail on the setup?
You have a render layer where you only render the cryptomatte, is that correct?
And for that render layer you don't use DR, but you do for the other layers?

      Yes that's exactly it.

Actually in the first place I wasn't disabling the distributed rendering but when I got this problem I thought it was related to distributed rendering, but it appears it might not.

The reason I'm having a render layer only for the cryptomatte is because we don't use multi channel exr for the rest of the render layers. (so there is also a layer override on the file type, from exr to exr multichannel).
On the Crypto Render Layer I also disable GI/lighs/maps/reflection/glossy effects/sss with an RL override in the override setting panel. And I disable all the other RE.

That's all the details I can think of, I'm trying replicate it with a scene but so far it seems to work, this happened a bit randomly.
I Will post a scene if I got this again. Thanks

        Right, thanks for the info.
Well, do let us know when there's a repro case and we'll look into it.
