  • how to - realistic lighting

    Hello,

What are the things I need to do so that my lighting model - will reasonably match the real world after construction?

I can do things like - choose the number of lights; set direction, angle, penumbra; set light color temperature; set lumens or other means of determining power requirements. What else do I need to do to predict (reasonably) reality?

Is there a manual or handbook specific to this topic of lights and how to calibrate same for realism?

    Thanks!!

    Jeff

    Hello, Jeff,

Make sure you are using quality HDRI files for Environment / Dome Light. Next, adjust Camera's EV accordingly (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposu...xposure_values).
If you wish to manually create all scene lights, focus on acquiring real-life references for intensity values and color (through Temperature texture with K value) as well as light shapes.
Alternatively, V-Ray IES lights can utilize precise photometric data . For source files (*.ies), check what models will be used in your project and look for their IES profiles usually available at manufacturers' websites.

    Kind regards,
    Peter
