  • Vray render times CLIMBING way too high.

I have some questions, ive been rendering out an animation about 800 frames and the first 50 or so frames took about 3 min per frame and then it has contined to increas to almost 2 hours per frame now, I am zooming in on a portion of the scene and I think this is the cause, there are no raytraced materials but there are v ray reflect and refract maps. Also I have GI on in an indoor scene.

I was wondering is there a way with vray advanced to use 2 computers that are on a lan and have them both use their power to compute each frame, instead of 1 doing odd numbers and the other doing even or something like that. The reason i dont want to do that is because 1 is less powerful than the other and it wouldnt render evenly. I want to know if and how to use both computers to render each and every frame together. Thanks

yes you can, its called distributed rendering and the latest beta version of vray can do that. Not sure if the demo version supports it though...

you dont want to use multiple computers on one frame when doing an animation

letting the computers split the animation is fine - they won't divide it evenly anyways. Backburner will assign a new frame every time one finishes.

As for your zooming - thats why its taking longer, higher visible detail, higher quality in the lighting calculation phase.

If you are doing stills - you can use multiple machines for rendering a single frame. Its called distributed rendering (DR for short) and is only available in the advanced version of vray.
