  • Standard material is completely black in several render elements [VRay Next CPU]

All object use Standard material shown as completely black in some render elements like VRayDiffuseFilter, VRayGlobalIllumination

    I'm using latest VRay Next 4.02.05.00001, 3ds Max 2018, Windows 10.

VRay Next GPU and VRay 3.6 still working fine, this bug seem like it's specific to VRay Next CPU.

I've attached images of a test case with 3 different materials for each objects (Standard, Physical, VrayMtl from left to right). Each mtl has a bitmap for diffuse; all render and mtl settings is as default.

You'll see the teapot (using Standard mtl) is totally black in DiffuseFilter and GI element, while other two still display fine.

I don't have an answer but I do have a question, why use standard materials anyway?

Many models from 3rd libraries still using standard material, manual conversion to VrayMtl is too time consuming.
Also, this is clearly a bug because this behavior does not occur on VRay 3.6 and VRay Next GPU.

There is a built in option to convert standard materials to Vray Materials inside Vray, conversion done in seconds. Not saying it wasn't a bug, but there's really no need to use standard materials regardless.

Hi Vlado, It has been a few months already...

Is this bug gonna be fixed on the next release?

              Best regards,

How can you even produce decent results with standard materials. Just convert them, there are hundreds of tools to do this automatically.
