  • when will VRAY 1.5 be available

the reason why i ask this question ist : because when the 1.5 is ready , there might be a Standalone-Version - but first this 1.5 has to be finished .

when is it finished ? how much more work will it be ? i woud like to know , because there has been no official information on that topic after it was made public on the www.VRAYRENDER.com last summer - so ... is there any release date , that we will have a full 1.5 ?

so it would be very nice to know the latest news on VRAY 1.5 and the "following?" VRAY standalone-Version - thnx in advance . ) simon

Personally, I wouldn't like to hear another release date. History has proved a fixed date gives only trouble. Because when the promised date is there and the work is not really finished 2 things can happen:

a buggy version is released: people get mad and crazy
nothing is released: people get mad and crazy

...which doesn't mean much. As everybody works with deadlines, I'm pretty much sure Chaos team is not against giving an aproximative date. Just to get an idea...

Yea thats all fine and dandy but the last time they did that they were all but tared and feathered for not releasing anything on the approximate date...

Oh I think its safe to say that mums the word with regards to release dates....you can only get burned at the stake so many times before you learn your lesson. Oh and we can thank all the complainers as to why only a VERY select few get the latest beta builds before everyone else now...

What I think people are looking for is an estimation of the STAGE 1.5 will be at when its release. What IS Chaos aiming to complete before releasing it? I dont care for " date of release" as much as " What will be completed when we get it done" that way as we track through the developement of vray up to that point we'd be able to tell what we're looking for as far as a close proximity to the goal.

                * goes back to playing with Vray toon again* eehehehehe, FUN!

The featureset has been frozen since 1.46.04. Notice that all the latest builds have only contained bug fixes, optimizations or small extensions/modifications to already existing features. So 1.5 will be about the same as what we currently have, with less bugs

That is at least very reassuring

Question - I dont know much about programming, but, say you have a 64 bit processor instead of the standard 32's, would that effect Vray at all? ( Asside from the fact it would probably be faster just on base speed)

Im still trying to figure out 64 bit stuff, does it mainly depend on the OS and Hadrware talking ot eachother in 64, or would a renderer and modeling program ALSO have to be re written as 64 based programs in order to take advantage of a 64 board?

In order to take advantage of the 64bit CPU, modelling programs such as 3dsmax have to be also re-written for 64bit platforms. Windows has to be also 64bit ... and it is coming.
                      Best Regards,

Isn't the CELL CPU realy only going to be used in console gaming systems?

I doubt microsoft would have an operating system to run on the CELL CPU any time soon but maybee *cross your fingers* there will be PC's running a special version of linux publicly available sometime in the next 1-2 years? I've read articles that have said it will/will not happen...Also read something interesting about the next generation of Mac's using CELL chips. Who knows!

As for using PS3's for network rendering...As far as I know, they would need someone to write an operating system from scratch and then have companies specifically write the software for that operating system. Correct me if I'm wrong, but thats a lot of work! If anyone knows more details please share (finding out facts on this seems to be impossible)

OK , thanx for all your POSTS - that tells me , that VRAY programmers are working on FINISHING 1.5 (to make it MORE STABLE and 98% BUGFREE - i guess there will never be a 100% BUGFREE programm)

so what real interests me is , if programmers are ALREADY working on STZANDALONE , or if you more concentrate on 3D Studio Max .

i am working a lot in MAYA for 1 year now , and i am happy that there will be some alternatives for rendering GI in maya (alternatives to MR - like Maxwell and FinalRender) .

it just would be interesting if someone could say : "well , we are working on VRAY standalone , and those are the features that already work: .... - which were tested by A FEW chosen BETA-TESTERS . what we are trying to achieve is .... "

THNX A LOT for this PUBLIC FORUM . I likey it
