    Hi all…

    I have some questions regarding VRay development and where it is going… I know people ask this a lot and reactions are mixed, but… and please don't be angry with me  

    I'll ask this again, because regardless of what many current clients of VRay think there are many others that need to know what Chaos is planning for this software.

    I'll be honest… I use Maxwell, and I think it's a good app even at alpha stage but even better I like the open policy next limit is presenting regarding the development process.

    I would like Chaos to show as also some kind of road map that will tell as when the Standalone version is anticipated, and what platforms will it support. Even more important is what the purchase policy will be.

    3DS MAX is not the only thing out there and I know Chaos is doing a good and thoughtful job with all the rest of the industry in mind… all I ask is for them to share this knowledge with as so that we can better plan our steps.

    The main reason I favored Maxwell is the fact they told in advance what they plan for the standalone and the fact that no new information was released regarding the VRay standalone project since July 15 2004 (or maybe i missed something you all know)

    Cheers all…

      chaos used to be very open about that kind of information as well, a long time ago, until their announced dates didn't get met (this happens to everyone) and then they got slammed for it. You cant please everyone, but if it were me developing such complicated softwares, Id rather not say a word, and piss off a few, then make a promise, break it, and then piss off everyone.

      1.5 will be out when its ready, which I think will be sooner then later. After all, its just bug fixes from here on out.

          no 1.5 will be what we have now, minus the current and any future bugs.

            @bakbek:
            hi , i was descently asking the same question half a year ago and (almost) one year ago (when it was announced that there will be a maya-version) .

            i guess "Percy" is exactly telling you , that there is no release date for the standalone version (because it would be "uncool" , having thousands of consumers writing email like :"you said it will be available in january!" - but in fact they are working on it / i guess that is the reason why there is no release date. ) - i very much understand that .

            on the other side i guess , that some "professional beta-testers" already compile source-code from week to week . that is at least the conclusion that i made after posting this question - it seems that , vray-standalone is already working - but there are still some important "exporter-skills" to be implented . so it will take a little time . i will just wait ......

            offTOPIC:
            ----------------------------
            next stage (what comes next) might be a new method in order to combine different renderers (such as rendering an image with VRAY-GI and Renderman RiCurves (for Hair)( - or something like that. or combining a MentalRay Shadow Pass with a FinalRender-Stage1-Character and a Maxwell-Background , having some VRAY-fluids - in one image , rendered with a NEXT-GENERATION-TOOL which devides a scene (SPLIT) - nevermind . forget it - just a composition-thought

              :: next stage?!

              Well by the looks of it Chaos and NextLimit will join forces to create the 'bestest' rendering tool in the world. It will be so advanced that no beta releases will be needed anymore and everyone will be VERY happy! Until then the rift between renderprofessionals will grow and in a desperate attempt to beat competition developers will sink deeper and deeper into creating outdated shortsited rendering tools [but not chaos...] .

                I think if Chaos promised people who get in now early EITHER a standalone or max/maya licence when completed and gave these people access to beta's then they could make a bit more $ to aid speed up the development

                So, If i pre-purchase the standalone version now, I should be able to have access to the max plugin version in the mean time to get the hang of settings etc prior to the standalone release. This way a few more beta testers could play with the standalone version as it develops, while creating their own material library and list of rendering presets with the current BETA plugin (assuming they have access to max or are willing to do the 30 day trial).

                Im pretty sure some of those hardcore rendering companies out there would be willing to pay now, knowing that they have more access to developments, and a certain copy of vray standalone when released.
