  • flicker in endless Ocean

    hi
i have a lot of flicker in horizon that doesn't disappear with increase value of Ocean Subdivs or image sampler even with setup value of Horizon Roughness ( e.g 0.0 or 0.1)
if look at video link, you will understand, this problem occurs more often in movable camera.

    Hey,

Which Phoenix version are you using? If you are already on 3.12, increasing the subdivs and reducing the horizon roughness are the way to go with the current algorithm.

    Cheers!

      thanks for answer
but i found a big problem in phoenix mesh, when your scene get heavy with big liquid mesh or increase value of ocean subdivs even increase resolution of render with items mentioned , 3ds max vray and phoenix can't management RAM even you have a simple endless ocean with high Ocean subdivs after than your 3ds max will crash.

other problem in endless ocean is flicker in horizon that it doesn't disappear with decrease Horizon Roughness and increase Ocean Subdivs, that when i increase ocean subdivs value to large amount , 3ds max crashes, but i use a simple plane with Vray displacement mod with vector mode , now, i have endless ocean without flicker and high speed render without crash.

        Hey,

We did some fixes for such crashes so if you are not using 3.12 it's best to get that version. If you are using Phoenix 3.12 and you still have crashes please send the scene to support@chaosgroup.com so we can fix it.

Increasing the ocean subdivs value will consume more memory so it's best to be careful with increasing it.

        Thank you,

it does not seem to fix the issue Ocean Subdivs at 4 and Horizon Roughness at 0.1. The higher subdiv really starting to take the hit on ram? is there any way to fix that flickering?

            Hey,

Are you using Phoenix 3.12? Can you show me how your flicker looks like?

If you increase the ocean subdivs this should look a lot better. 4 subdivs are not enough in some cases so you will need more.
