  • Anchoring a spotlight

Is there a way to anchor the point end of the cone of a spotlight? I'm working on a rendering where I know the origin light fixture, but I'm tweaking where I want the light's target/destination to be. So I'd love to be able to keep the point end of my spotlight stationary and aim the light from there. I'm able to do this when I first drop the light in if I hold the shift key. But once it's placed, can you get back to that? Otherwise I have to use the usual rotate tools and when you rotate the cone, both ends of it rotate, so it's just a guessing game as to where I'm pointing my light. Anyone solve this?

The initial Spot light transformation controls are not available after the light is created. The Spot light widget can then only be rotated along x/y/z without changing their source position, however we realize this is cumbersome and does not provide easy aiming.

With that said, I've just logged a feature request based on your post and other feedback to provide Spot, IES and Rectangle lights a target point handle for more sensible control.
Be sure to let us know if you have anything else in mind!

    Kind regards,
    Peter
