  • Replace material doesnť work

Hello, i´m using Vray 3.60.03 for Rhino 6. I can´t replace one material with another. In asset editor, I right-click on one material, select "use as replacement", right-click on different material, select "replace", but nothing happens. Am i doing something wrong? Thanks!

EDIT: I found out how this function works. It doesnt do anything with materials in your library. It reassignes your materials. But only does so by objects which have material assigned by object. It doesnt do anything, if you have materials assigned by layer.
But, is there a way i can completely replace one material with another? Either by changing material definition in library (as it used to be in VRay2) or by reassinging a new material? How do you guys cope with this issue? Thanks!

      Hello, Milosh,
There is no way to quickly do this without changing the material source for some objects from Layer to Object.

We are aware of this limitation and will address it in the upcoming major update. Our dev team is actively working on this right now.
Please let me know if there is anything else related to material operations that is bothering you or you wish to see improved in a particular way!

      Kind regards,
      Peter

Hello Peter, thanks for the reply, we are looking forward to this update.

As you mentioned, we have two more things regarding materials, which we are still not able to solve:

        -----
First one is sort of connected to what you just wrote. Do you have some idea how we could improve this workflow?
        https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...fferent-models

Your colleague Georgi Georgiev just answered me this in the e-mail, but that does nor really help us, since we are not able to rewrite materials yet.

Kindly note that V-Ray materials are part of the project and cannot be loaded from an external directory. You could, however, create a custom library from which you could add materials to a scene. Afterwards, when exporting or importing objects, the materials will transfer as well. In V-Ray 3.60.03, you could create a custom folder in the following directory - C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\V-Ray for Rhinoceros 6\materials - and then access it through the V-Ray Asset Editor. https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...terial+Library
Additionally, please be informed that you could use the File Path Editor to archive and re-path any assets related to the project. For more detailed information, please visit https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...le+Path+Editor
        "

Second one, a technical problem, which is described here:

Any assitance is appreciated. Thanks, Miloš
