  • Too long render times

    Hi all, two questions:

    1. I was wondering if there was a tutorial or instruction somewhere that helps finding out which of my render settings are making the render times extra long? I have tested the scene with different materials and while this makes some difference it doesn't sort it completely.
I am just thinking that some of my settings are overlapping but since the render time is excruciating (=hours) it is hard to do test renders to determine the culprit!

    and
    2. why does changing the view from "perspective" to "parallel" mess up with the lighting of the scene? I did not encounter this with previous version so am bit baffled by this.

    Thanks,

    Tiia

    Hello

The simplest way to narrow down the cause of the slowdown is to restore the default render settings.
Keep in mind, this will also reset the Camera and Environment settings so make sure you save a copy of your scene or remember the settings used before proceeding with the investigation.
If this does not hasten the render process, you can check whether some material is at fault by enabling te “Material Override” toggle from the main Settings panel.
Another thing to check is disable any geometry generated on render time, e.g. Fur, Displacement, Proxies:
    - V-Ray Fur can be toggled off
    - Displacement can be switched off via a checkbox in the right-side Settings panel under Render Parameters > Switches
    - V-Ray Proxies can be selected and hidden via Rhino’s _Hide command (or isolated in a separate layer and then the layer can be toggled off)

If you cannot determine by yourself the cause of your problem, please send over the scene for investigation. Make sure you use the Rhino menu V-Ray > Pack Project to archive the project and then transfer it via email or a file-sharing service of your choice to support@chaosgroup.com
Include a message with this forum thread, the render times you observed as well as your system specs and full version number of V-Ray.
