  • Purchase Time for Vray

Just wondering, about how long does it take to buy V-ray? I know you can buy it online, but I was curious as to weither or not you have to wait an excessive ammount of time (*many hours-days*) or if you can downlad it within minutes of giving the nessisary credit info?

You get the link to download it right away, then you need to install the license manager and send the request code to Chaos for the Auth code. It can be the same day if you get it to them in their morning, best to do it on a weekday not the weekend.

Ok, I have another question about liscencing.

When you buy V-ray can it be used on more than 1 computer for rendering purposes without the need for another lisence?

Do you need 2 lisences to use it if you have 2 people modeling on 2 seaperate machines at the same company?

That sounds pretty dodgy, i guess thats why they can make vray look so cheap, cause they try to charge shipping on a download item..what a crock of crap.

                DaftPunk:
Last time i checked you dont need vray for modelling.
Vray will only allow one machine to be using the licence at any given time, by that i mean for setting up renders and tweaking settings. When you do a mass render you can have many more machine setup as render nodes which are able to render using the same licence.

So do I use the same lisence I use for my modeling machine? or do I need another for the render nodes to share between them?

Sorry if I wasnt clear about that before

as far as im aware, for the render nodes you just point them to the floating vray licence server (newest builds only) so all machines are looking at the one licence server. So in theory and 1 machine can be used for setting up the render. And they can all be used for the actually rendering.

All the licence information is held on the licence server, not on the indiviual machines.

Im pretty sure thats how it works out

Rendernodes don't need a license at all actually. They will render without a license. Just install vray on your renderfarm and you are ready to render.

Is that true? I bought vray yesterday and although I briefly read through the confirmation emails, I didn't read anything about being able to download it. Actually I got the impression that Vray would be shipped on a cd because in one of the emails it mentioned something about a tracking code.

Where do you get the link from? Is it supplied by email, or on Vrays site after the purchase has been made?

The download link is sent to you manually once payment has been confirmed and the order details is sent to Chaos Group from regsoft (or wherever you buy it). They set up the account manually as far as I know. Since it's the weekend now they probably won't be sending you anything untill monday.
