  • Why rendering is black?

    Hi!
Trying to do the tuto of Chaos Group here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uGE...ature=youtu.be
    I am at 7 minutes.
First, it was ok, i had light.
    I tied to put proxy.
Changing view, i don't know why, all is black ,rendering too.
    And the sun is enabled.
It is Vray 3.6 with Rhino 6.
Please, can you help me? i am so tired!
    Thanks so much!

    Hello,

Could you please type in the _Sunlight command and check the Sun position? The most common cause for models to appear so dark in Rhino's rendered view mode is the sun being below or very close the horizon. Increase its altitude should fix it.
Please let me know if this helped.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

Hello! As you see in the video i just did now of my project, even if in the command i write "_sunlight", as you says to do, the sun doesn't appear, and Rhino only ask me where i want top put the sun, and nothing happens! Really, i thought that if i bought this new vray version, i wouldn't have no more to use the rhino sun, that is an horrible thing, now, in the panel of the light in Vray,it proposes rhino Sun.... So, which sun i have to use, and how?Rhino Sun or Vray Sun? And how to do this, please? And how can i see it, please? Thanks so much! Sandrine

Could you please send the scene over for investigation? You can copy the project file, then open the copy in Rhino and strip the scene to a single object that remains dark. Then use the Rhino menu "V-Ray > Pack Project" and send over the archived file to support@chaosgroup.com either directly or via a file-sharing service of your choice. Once we receive the scene, we'll be get back to you with a solution.

        Kind regards,
        Peter

hi, thanks so much! I don't understand how can i do what you write: "then open the copy in Rhino and strip the scene to a single object that remains dark", what is "strip to a single object"?
          Thanks so much

            Hi,

As my colleague has advised, you could share with us only the object that exhibits the issue. To do so, you could copy the object that renders black to a new file and use the Pack Project command to create an archived copy, which you could then send to support@chaosgroup.com for further investigation.

                Hi,

After further investigation, the issue is occurring because the Sun position is under the horizon, essentially making it a night render.

                  Hi!
                  Thanks so much !
Do you know how can I change the sun position ? Is it in Rhino? How can I find and select the sun in order that it is on the horizon, please?
                  Thanks so much !

You can control the sun per Rhino sun options.

Hi! Thanks a lot! I know this Window but thing I don't remember is how can I sélect and find only the Suns I created, because I think I created a lot, and as I have a lot of things in my drawing and I can't see the Suns, i'd like to know how can I sélect them and see only them on my drawing, in order, after, to move them on the ground of the drawing?
                      Thanks so much !

I'm not sure I fully understand you, but maybe it helps - you find the sun at the V-Ray asset editor. If you have several sun lights at your scene than you can use "select object in scene" at the RMB menu.

                          Hi! Thanks so much !
But I think I created few Suns by using Rhino sun. And another commentary wrote that first i have to select my sun created using rhino sun, and after, move it on the ground because it is dark because my sun is underground . How can i please do this with rhino sun? This is a thing that I don't understand using vray and rhino: why do we have first to create the sun in Rhino and not in Vray ?
                          Thanks so much

                            Hi marbella

Kindly note that V-Ray inherits Rhino's Sun - Rhino Document Sun - however it is disabled by default. The parameters of this sun can be adjusted from the Sun Panel (right-click V-Ray toolbar button or run _Sun command)

When creating a new Sun light using V-Ray, you can adjust its parameters from the Properties panel (please see attached screenshot)!. As Micha has advised, you can use the Select Objects In Scene option

                              Hi!
                              Thanks
But as it is a file where i created a lot of suns in rhino 5, it is not easy to have all the suns. I don't know how to do.
                              I have to try again.
Other big problem i have now and as i am rendering a competition, i need a quick help, is since today, it seems i can't open my vray licence. And i don't know why. Yesterday it was ok, i never changed a thing, and opening now my rhino 6, and putting as i do every time, my wibu key, i have the picture i send you here. I am going to create a new post for this because i need to have today my vray licence, my competition is urgent. Thnaks if you can help me.
