  • Vray Cloud question

We have been considering using the Vray Cloud render some of our final animations, but our problem has been when we convert to the required VR scene for the cloud. It takes over a half a day( was still going. we stopped it) to convert and our file reached over 100 gigs. Is this the norm? Most of our files are pretty large. Cad files of products and large scenes.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello,

Currently the maximum allowed size for a single job in Chaos Cloud is 100GB - this includes not only the uploaded .vrscene file but also the assets linked with the it.

We are going to need the original scene along with the assets in order to check why the exported scene gets so large. If that is alright with you please send it to support@chaosgroup.com ( please mention this forum thread in your email )

In the meantime you can perform the following steps to determine the overall size of the scene per frame and submit it in batches of fewer frames:
    1. Export a single frame from the animation as a vrscene file.
    2. Export two consecutive frames from the animation as single vrscene file.
    3. Open a command prompt / terminal and enter the folder where the Chaos Cloud Client App is located:
    For Windows: cd %appdata%\Chaos Group\Cloud\Client
    For MacOS/Linux: cd $HOME/.ChaosGroup/vcloud/client
    4. Run the following command for the first vrscene and then for the second vrscene and chose a different output directories for both:
    For Windows: ccloud.exe pack --sceneFile=<path_to_the_exported_vrscene_file> --output=<path_to_store_the_output>
    For MacOS/Linux: ccloud pack --sceneFile=<path_to_the_exported_vrscene_file> --output=<path_to_store_the_output>

Compare the size of both archives - the difference will get you a rough estimation on the how much data each frame will add to the size of the whole animation.

For example if the archive of the single frame is 10 GB and the archive of the two frames is 11 GB you will have 10 GB for the first frame + 1 GB for each subsequent one.

In this example you should be able to upload no more than 90 frames (10gb for the first frame + 89x1 for each subsequent = 99 GB total ) as a single job from this animation. Please note that this is a very rough estimation and it will be best to upload a bit less just in case (lets say 70-80 frames) as some of the subsequent frames may contain more data then others.

If you have replicators there should be somewhere a option to tell, that the replicator is not animated. Otherwise V-Ray will create a new version of the scene for every single frame that's added to the .vrscene-file.
If your "normal" scene is 1GB in size 100 frames will be 100GB then. Same counts for deformers. I don't know how your scene looks like so it's mainly tapping in the dark
