  • How to make VrayLight not visible to camera?

So I'm trying to control a reflection backdrop in my scene. I have a glass material that reflects this backdrop. To be able to include only the glass objects, it needs to be a VrayLight, so VrayLightMtl is not an option, as I see it.. So far so good. However, there are two main issues that I believe there must be a solution to:

    1) Take a look at the video, see how the reflection changes when I make the light invisible. I thought it should be the exact same when visible as invisible? The black in the reflection is good looking when the light is visible, but gets totally ruined when I make the light invisible. How can I preserve it?

    2) I have no visual representation of my bitmap texture, so it's basically hit or miss until I by luck find the right position. How can I see my texture that is placed in the texture slot in the light?

    Thanks!

You should use a lightmtl on a piece of geo.
Then you'd have the control you're looking for.

Thanks for response lele, but then I'm out of luck when it comes to excluding, isn't that correct?

        Excluding what, exactly?
You can use a mtlWrapper or the vray properties for GI and matte, and the object properties for shadows and camera visibility.
        You can't light-link, of course.

        2) I have no visual representation of my bitmap texture, so it's basically hit or miss until I by luck find the right position. How can I see my texture that is placed in the texture slot in the light?
Isolate, start IPR, change texture as needed.

          Excluding objects from that light.

Nope, the light linking won't work.
Sorry i didn't notice you asked for that to begin with.

Direct visibility affects refraction, so that is why you see stuff disappear when the light goes away.
This is the intended behaviour, as for example when you have a domelight seen through glass (f.e. you're doing an interior), direct visibility is expected to propagate behind the glasses, so that the light truly disappears from view.
