Someone on a post mentioned Vray5, is that planned anytime soon and will it be incurring an upgrade fee? Seems V4 hasnt been out that long?

I was counting the Max cycle (may 2018 ), and if we have to take into account the real life of the release, it's a bit longer still, as work started sooner, and v.5 won't be out for a while still.
It seems to me in terms of release stability, and ROI, this is the best value on the market, even if it got down to two years instead of bordering on three.
Then again, i'm not a user anymore, so perhaps the perception of the value proposition isn't the same for everyone else.
Re: indie: what would qualify as such for you? Single Workstation / limited threads use only with all the features? Basic rendering features only, instead of all the bells and whistles of a standard release?
I'm personally curious to hear what you'd be ready to part from for a (substantially?) lower price.Lele

Believe me I would love to have upgraded to next as Im feeling like im getting left behind a bit, but obviously I know that's down to me and getting clients and not Chaosgroups' responsibility, but saying that, its always good to have a pricing structure that at least reflects the difference between an individual and a company. I still pinch myself that Autodesk have done it, I just hope they continue with it.
Indie structure wise, maybe similar to other programs out there, for people with yearly earnings under a certain threshold, a full version, nothing excluded, including maybe a couple of rendernodes, or indie pricing on rendernodes as well as on rendercloud credits.
That sort of thing

Myself i totally hate indie licences idea versus charging companies shitloads.
takea look at maxtree.org for example. Thats properly f...ing ridiculous.
marvelous, etc.
why woudl a company have to pay more when sometimes they use the particular software less than a freelancer.
totally unfair scheme the whole indie idea.
every serious 3d artist should be able to afford his render of choice if it makes his bread. No need for discounts etc.
just my two cents

There as some inaccuracies and also a confusion between software licenses and content libraries licenses here.
- Content providers very commonly offer different subscription plans based on company size, yes. BUT : You don't pay more simply because you're a larger company. You also get a bunch more licenses for your money. And if you do the math (even with your maxtree example) the price per seat paid by a company is lower than what a freelancer pays.
- And the same applies for software. Very few companies actually offer indie licenses. Conversely they very often offer volume discounts... so here again the price per seat for a company is lower than what a freelancer pays.
