  • Help! Jagged looking displacement

Rendering a surface with a simple gradient for displacement map. The resulting image shows jagged edges.
This has stumped me before, really hoping there is a simple solution.

    Few suggestions :
    -blur the map a bit
-reduce the edge length carefully (2 might be good)
-test region on high resolution render and don't use IPR to judge the quality .

Simply, I love to put pixels together! Sounds easy right : ))

Convert to 16bit and blur a little. So you could get approx. 64000 high levels instead 255. I hope it helps.

Might also be the topology of the object and how the texture is mapped across it? If you have a perfect grid of squares for the uvs but the direction texture is crossing it at a 45 degree angle you might not get nice results.
