  • Settings for animation

I don't have access to the manual since I'm running the demo version, so I'm asking this here:

What are the best settings for animation using GI?

How do you get hdri to work? I put a vrayhdri in the GI enivorment slot but it's not working?

Is there a script to convert standard materials to vray materials (like finalrender)?

I found an hdri tutorial, but I'm still not able to get the map to show up in the background. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I'm using stpeters_probe.hdr.

Put the map in the max environment slot too. The vray GI slot is only for GI, this will not make the map show up in BG.

When I do this it messes up the lighting.

            Without map in env

            with map in env

You need to put the hdri in the vray override slots: both GI and reflection/refraction. If there is a map in the vray GI slot, it will block the light from the max environment slot, so I guess you didn't put the map in the vray GI slot (skylight).

Can you post an image of your settings and where you put which maps?
